How to write a fence quote

A clear quote wins the job and avoids arguments later. Here is what to put in it, in order.

What to put in a fence quote

  1. Your details: name or company, phone, email.
  2. The customer and the address of the job.
  3. A quote number and a date, so you both refer to the same version.
  4. What will be built: the fence type, the height, the length, the gates — a drawing says it best.
  5. Materials, line by line, quantity times unit price.
  6. Labor, by length or as a fixed amount, and other items: removal of the old fence, delivery.
  7. Subtotals, tax and the total. The lines must add up to the total.
  8. How long the price holds: a validity note, such as 30 days.

Keep the price you quoted

Material prices move. Once a quote is sent, its prices should stay as sent; a new quote gets a new number and today's prices.

With Fence Calc

The app builds the quote from the measured line: a drawing of the fence, the order list, labor, other items, tax and the project total, with your details and the customer's name. It is numbered the first time you share it, and its prices are frozen from then on. See PDF quote.
