FAQ
Questions and answers
The questions fence builders and homeowners ask about Fence Calc.
Getting started
Is Fence Calc free?
Yes. Every feature is free: the material list, the quote, the suppliers, the install guide. Ads pay for the app, and one purchase removes them. There is no subscription.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no account and no sign-up. Your fences and quotes stay on your phone.
Is there an iPhone version?
No. Fence Calc is an Android app. An unrelated iOS app by another developer has the same name.
Feet or meters?
Both: spacing in feet, holes in inches and bags in pounds, or meters, centimeters and kilograms. Any currency, picked from a list.
Posts, concrete and materials
How does it count the posts?
Corners are read from the bends of the line, gates get two posts, and line posts are spread evenly between them, never wider than your spacing. See How many fence posts.
How does it work out the concrete?
Hole by hole, from the depth, the diameter and the post width, then in bags of the weight you buy. See Concrete per fence post.
Which fence types does it know?
Wood privacy, picket, post and rail, vinyl or composite, welded wire, chain link, field wire, barbed wire and electric. Each one is a starting point you can change. See Fence types.
Are the quantities exact?
They are estimates from your line and your settings. Check them before you order.
Prices and quotes
Does it know material prices?
No. It never invents a price: you enter yours, or keep your suppliers' price lists in the app. See Suppliers.
Can I send a quote to my customer?
Yes: a PDF with a drawing of the fence, the list, labor, other items, tax and the total, your details and a quote number. See PDF quote.
Does it add sales tax or VAT?
Only the rate you enter, on the subtotal. Fence Calc never applies a tax you have not entered.
Measuring
How accurate is the GPS?
A phone GPS is good to a few meters, and every walked length shows its ± margin. For a short run, drawing on the satellite map is more precise; on site, finish with a tape. See GPS accuracy.
Can it replace a boundary survey?
No. It estimates and sets out a fence. For a legal boundary, ask a licensed surveyor.
Privacy
Does it upload my fences or my position?
No. They stay on your phone. The network carries map tiles, address search and ads. See Privacy.
